to begin one of her fiber sculptures, norma minkowitz crochets the silky outline of a human torso onto a mannequin, stiffens the web-like structure an
d then cuts it from the form. once the sculpture takes shape, she often combines the torso with plant roots in her attempt to explore the powerful issues of confinement and boundaries.
