new york artist miwa koizumi transforms discarded plastic water bottles into underwater seascapes. ‘pet project’ is named for Poly Ethylene Terephthalate, the type of plastic that she uses to create the liquid-like forms. pet is made from plant based oils and is highly recyclable. koizumi describes the process:
“I use a combination of heat guns, soldering irons and different cutting utensils to make these PETs. I wanted to work with glass but this is more fun. I have as much material as I want just by fishing in the garbage.”
