As a master sushi chef in Japan, Takeo Okamoto was introduced to the art of ice sculpture. The first time he saw a life-size sculpture, the former tunnel engineer knew immediately that he had found his life-work. Today Okamoto and his son run Okamoto Studio in NYC, one of the city’s premiere ice sculpting design companies.
Jeremy Mangan, an oil painter who has also gained acclaim using coffee as a painting medium, went to Hunter College with Okamoto’s son. After meeting the senior Okamoto Mangan soon took up ice sculpting and he is now the studio’s principal carver. Yes, I said coffee as paint(third row).
Watch as the two carve a pair of Sealyham Terriers.
