Former documentary filmmaker Theo Kamecke has had a life filled with travel, excitement, rich experiences and interesting stories, but it wasn’t until a stack of circuit boards caught his eye one day that he found real purpose. Kamecke was fascinated by the patterns on the boards, where he saw “that the aesthetic qualities of the circuitry graphics could, like hieroglyphs, be resolved into an inscrutable language or like colors, into a palette of mood.”

Electronic circuitry is composed of metal laminated to dyed epoxy fiberglass. The artist creates functional and decorative sculpture by utilizing the same marquetry techniques traditionally used on hardwood forms, resulting in sculptures that look like metal over black stone. The work is evocative of ancient hieroglyphics, the clean lines of the sculpture mixing beautifully with the curves of the circuitry patterns. Brilliant.
