Alain Mailland‘s green wood hollowing techniques allow him to heartily celebrate life and the “secret wonders of the burls and roots of the South of France.” Mailland, born in Africa and raised in Paris, began his professional life as a carpenter and mason before being introduced to woodturning in the late 1980′s. Known for his sense of humor and for his complete control over the material he turns, Mailland’s wood sculpts of vegetable and animal hybrids turn heads in exhibits around the globe.
