Using traditional Thai kite-making knot techniques that he learned as a child from his grandfather, Korakot Aromdee’s large-scale bamboo sculptures and lamps curve and curl, playing up some of the most attractive characteristics of the versatile grass. Aromdee’s commitment to sustainability reaches farther than the materials he uses to express himself. He also helps sustain the local economy by employing 60 people in his hometown village to assist him as he creates and assembles the massive structures. The artist takes knot tying to a new level. Graceful. Sensuous. Soothing.
