catherine truman: treasure from down under

Catherine Truman is one of Australia’s living treasures. An acclaimed jeweler and wood carver, Truman co-founded Gray Street Workshop, one of Australia’s longest running artist cooperatives. Currently the artist is a PhD candidate working on the thesis topic, The crafting of human anatomy – a personal inquiry. Wood carvings reminiscent of contemporary Japanese Netsuke show Truman’s ability to capture the essence of our human form. Smooth sensual carvings not entirely representative, but deeply familiar.
