Exploring 300 years of the history of fashion, painter/textile designer Isabelle de Borchgrave and costumer Rita Brown “conceived and produced an astonishing collection of dresses in paper known as Papiers a la Mode“. Since 1998 the traveling exhibit of life size dresses and accessories has been shown all over Europe, the United States and Japan. If you are going to be in Venice this month, the dresses will be on display at Palazzo Fortuny until July 21st.
Her training as a painter is put to good use on the paper wardrobe.
Children’s costumes are as finely assembled as their adult counterparts.
de Borchgrave’s studio, as impressive as her designs, is worth a peek.
I look forward to the day that a polymer clay artist is asked to collaborate on a project like Papiers a la Mode. Think of the buttons, oh the buttons…
