hadar jacobson knows the way out

Over the weekend I went to see a house (yes, there is another move in my future). A sweet little house built in the 1920’s. Charming, with lovely architectural details.

When it was time to look over the basement (the basement with the very, very low ceiling and the dirt floor), I found myself looking for an alternate way out. The basement felt like a prison cell. Hmmm…could I fit through one of those small, high windows? I don’t think so. The experience was unnerving. I think I’ll keep looking.

Silversmith and PMC artist Hadar Jacobson knows that feeling and translates the way out in her collection of jewelry. “Central to my work is the theme of imprisonment. I often work with closed three-dimensional forms, but when I construct them, I always leave some way out of the enclosure: a window, a crack in the wall, a hole in the fence, a tear in the fabric, a break in the jug.”
