bronzclay blog carnival

Elaine over at All Things Metal Clay has been following the buzz about the newest clay to hit the market – BronzClay. After months of talk and eager anticipation, the clay is now available. I can see why there is such a commotion – this stuff is hot, hot, hot! Rio Grande, exclusive distributor of the clay, has a gallery of images and a free booklet (PDF download) on their website.

BRONZclay™! Created by chemist Bill Struve of Metal Adventures, BRONZclay will add a whole new element to jewelry makers, artists and sculptors.

I will be watching to see how people use this new medium. In the meantime, I’ve gathered lots of links to blog posts with more information about the clay and I will update them as I find more. Links after the pics.

  1. There’s also a podcast interview with Jill Erickson of Art Jewelry Magazine, over at CraftCast with Alison Lee. I think they talk about BronzClay there too.

Can’t wait to try it myself!

Thanks Elaine – I was waiting to hear back from Alison regarding which guest spoke about it (because my memory just isn’t cooperating!) so that I could add that link, but I think you’ve answered my question!

  3. Kathi says:

well gee thanks Susan. I was hoping never to see a link for that stuff…cause now I *NEED* to get some. My kiln is wanting to make pretties. One nice thing though, is it is a heck of a lot cheaper then PMC!!

  4. I love Celie Fago’s softly pastel bracelets. Beautiful.

How fun to find a link to my blog. The bronze clay has been amazing to work with. There are still so many things that haven’t been tried out with it yet. It always so exciting to take the pieces out of the kiln to see how they fired and if they have taken on some great color. I posted some new pics last night…July 29th, Please take a look

I have had a chance to work with the bronzclay. (I was some of the lucky ones who got my order in on the first day!) I normally have worked in silver, low fire Art Clay 650. I found the bronzclay handled about the same, but did have distinctive metalic odor. I fired it up, using the slow fire directions for larger pieces (to be on the safe side). I mostly got little to no patina. I found out that not only was I glad for the mask I was wearing (carbon was EVERYWHERE!), I really wished I had a scuba mask on as well. Certainly I will plan on an even higher grade mask (I had one that was rated as good for vapors and fine particles). I have more info and pics at my blog, in the August section.
