It is not unusual for Angela Gerhard to fire each of her enamel pieces up to twenty times before she is satisfied with the results. The Massachusetts jewelry artist’s work is distinguished by its bold, blazing colors and brooches that do double duty as pendants…or musical instruments.
In the fiery red neckpieces below, Gerhard captures stones and beads in a mesh screen window – rumor has it that when shaken they rattle like a maraca! Nice wake up call for this steamy summer Monday morning.
Layering, etching, sgraffito, and over and under-firing the enamel creates varying effects in color, texture, and surface design.
