Renowned glass artist Shane Fero is also an avid birder. In a studio nestled next to the famed Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, Fero literally breathes his passion into the blown glass bird sculptures he creates. The hollow birds are regal, expressive and part of a body of work that the artist describes as “colorful, serious, FUN!”

Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery is showing an impressive collection of the birds.

Appalachian Finch 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ x 1 3/4″

Red & Black Peckerhead 5 1/2″ x 9″ x 3″

I met Shane several years ago at a conference at Penland. Wonderful person! He had an exhibit at Blue Spiral at the time and I couldn’t take my eyes off his work. The detail is amazing, you expected them to start singing at any moment.
