Memories and nature are two recurring themes that I bump into when researching art and art makers. Both subjects inspire, confound and challenge artists as they strive to express their individual interpretation.
Mixed media artist Michelle Sales combines the two as she hand dyes and heat forms synthetic fabrics, creating a web-like material that she stitches together with debris from nature to deliver haunting sculptures meant to preserve memories and mark the passage of time. Soulful. Textural.
Casting my net, I capture personal memories as they rise to the surface. Often my mind will replay something specific and singular; a moment, an ecstasy, a humiliation.
Living in a forested area, I am confronted daily with the relationships between interlacing tree branches and the tightly interconnected nervous system. The branches ensnare natural and manmade debris, much as the human brain traps, stores and collects memories.

wow…I totally love the last two images and what she says. good eye candy food for thought
