sara lagrand: meet the girls

Today is the last Monday in February – after a gray, cold weekend I’m ready for a blast of color and warmth to remind me that Spring is almost here.  I’d like you to meet Joanie, Ruth, Anne and Diane, fantasy flower-pod brooches that bloom year round, from Sara LaGrand’s latest collection of glass and wire jewelry. I want to know more about these lovely ladies, don’t you?

Joanie

LaGrand’s mother was in the flower business and she learned how to create corsages and arrangements at an early age.  It is delightful to see how these early influences continue to inform and inspire her work.  The award winning artist has studied both in Italy and the United States, melting glass since 1996 and she “continues to study and grow, pushing the limits of the glass and combining it with unconventional materials for an eclectic look at nature and pop culture.”

The girls will be going to Craft Boston next month where you can adopt them.  There is much more to see on LaGrand’s website, Pretty Babies Glass and her Flickr pages.

Her work is amazing! I especially like how the colors, the shapes, the wire– all thought about and working in harmony. Her colors are so different– subtle but unusual and interesting. Thanks for bringing her to our attention, Susan!
