Willard Wigan is dyslexic. When he was growing up his teachers made him feel small. As he explains in the video below, they made him feel like he was nothing. He began sculpting tiny houses for ants in an effort to escape his learning difficulties.

Alexis Silk’s hot sculpted blown glass figures hang on meat hooks and pulleys, making a statement about sexuality, gender roles and the stereotypes associated with women. The 26 year old artist, who specialized in bronze and iron casting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, independently pursued instruction in glass blowing and hot sculpting while completing her BFA – and the results are impressive.

Contemporary fiber and textile artist Ursula Gerber Senger received her formal training as a construction draftswoman in Zurich, rounding out her course load with several art classes. In 1981 she started working with textiles and by the early 1990′s added metals to the materials she used to create textiles.
