Vividly colored anodised aluminum jewelry by Meghan O’Rourke lifted my spirits on this rainy Friday morning and immediately changed my soggy mood.  I admit that I am drawn to the material first – partly because of its weight, partly because of its ability to take color.

[private_archives]But O’Rourke offers a different rendition than other aluminum jewelry I’ve seen, mixing it with titanium, sterling silver and stainless steel, layering the metals and adding markings to some that give them the look of pierced tin.

The Australian artist worked for several years in the retail jewelry field before returning to school to complete a Bachelor in Visual Arts & Design at  Adelaide Centre for the Arts.  Jump start your weekend with this shock of color, texture and interesting forms – I particularly like the Coral Clusters pictured above and the blackened steel Taj brooches (scroll about half way down the page for those).
