kathy triplett: below the surface

Kathy Triplett’s ceramic tiles tease the curious viewer with windows and small openings that reveal something more.  Many of the sculptural tiles appear almost like deeply personal shrine offerings.  Triplett’s twist on the basic tile form, her use of windows and openings, creates a powerful effect and draws us into the world below the surface.

gordon uyehara: changing direction

Gordon Uyehara’s career path is a pleasant reminder that it is never too late to change direction. Graduating college with a Bachelor of Science degree, the Hawaii native spent more than a decade working in the information technology field before he decided that he wanted to pursue a path that allowed him to fully realize his artistic expression.

Inspired by a DAMuse post about Danielle Embry (more specifically, this enamel on copper sculpture) and a wonderful Flickr picture of berries, taken by Tamara (Block Party Press),  polymer clay artist Jana Roberts Benzon felt compelled to interpret both in clay, combining the enameled leaves and colorful berries, to create these beautiful pieces – Stonegarden and Blossom.
