amy flynn’s fobots have people personality

Yesterday I played hooky for a few hours poking through boxes and bins in junk shops.  I returned two or three times to the same old box in a dusty corner of one shop.  The box had nine pool balls in various colors.  I picked up a few of the balls and tossed them around in my hands, trying to figure out what I could do with them.  In the end I left them there, but when I got home there was an email waiting for me with a link to these Fobots. Aha! Yes, Amy Flynn figured out what to do with old billiard balls, not to mention faucets, blades, vintage tins, keys and handles! And – she’s keeping things out of the landfill – who can argue with that?

After more than two decades as an illustrator Flynn decided it was time for something new and the found object robots were born. She solders and bolts the babies and every one of them has ‘people personality’, which is something I consistently find appealing. You can’t help but smile when you look at them – pure entertainment. Not only do the charming Fobots make me smile, they also remind me of why I love old pieces and parts. Flynn is clearly having fun – check out her blog for a laugh and a few tips on how to find your own robot parts.
