sina emrich’s work takes a new turn

Germany’s Sina Emrich is exploring wood as a wearable object, thoughtfully combining conical shapes to create organic neckpieces.  Emrich is currently finishing up a three-month Artist-in-Residence program at Sturt Contemporary Craft Centre in Australia, an experience that has given her the opportunity to make art without interruption.

Her blog shows several work-in-progress images, giving you a glimpse of what it takes to bring an idea to life, and it looks like concentrated time in the studio is paying off. She recently began to combine the three dimensional wood elements, creating more volume and different shapes that suggests movement and flow. Emrich’s progress is a gentle reminder that practice, patience, focus and commitment are what move us forward in the art making journey.

I love to work with wood. Every time I find a new branch I am curious what is hidden inside. The moment I am cutting it open into slices is always like a little adventure. Like gem stones every piece of wood is unique and precious.
