Michihiro Matsuoka manipulates clay until the earthen material looks like aged copper and other discarded metals. Matsuoka’s hybrid world is a fusion of animals and machinery in steampunk-like fashion. The artist’s attention to detail as he formed and painted the menagerie is so meticulous that I thought I was looking at recycled sheet metal.

When an artist takes his work one step further than you might expect, it always adds an element of interest for me. Brandon Holschuh’s jewelry, presented on simple wood platforms with metal supports, allows the owner to showcase it as small sculpture when the jewelry isn’t being worn. The effect is striking.

Germany’s Simon Schubert doesn’t need a pencil to sketch his ideas. Schubert ‘draws’ room interiors by executing a series of folds and creases on a sheet of paper, achieving a result that isn’t quite origami – it looks more like embossed paper.
