Many thanks to everyone for the great response to my last post – between my Facebook profile, Facebook fan page and the post itself your comments let me know how you feel about DAM and about the redesign. I’m wearing a big grin. I’m still working out several bugs in the design and recovering from too many all-night marathon website-building-days so my posts will probably be late for the rest of this week – your patience is deeply appreciated.
I snapped this picture of Dina Varano (right) looking through the window of her shop as she was assisting a customer one evening. Varano’s beautiful little shop was so crowded I couldn’t get inside!
The other big news this week is that I am about to begin my first apprenticeship. Remember this post last spring? Well, since that time the idea has grown and evolved – over the next 18 months I will devote two days a week to 4-10 week apprenticeship gigs. Next week I will visit Tim Tate, Michael Janis, Novie Trump and a few other Washington DC area artists who have expressed interest in having me come to their studios and when I can work out a housing arrangement (anybody know of one?) I will head down there for several weeks. But first I will start in Connecticut, working with jewelry artist Dina Varano (pictured above). I will, of course, take you along on my journey through blog posts and pictures. I am still looking for more artists to work with – it can be anywhere in the USA – drop me a line for consideration.

More to come soon regarding the apprenticeship, for now enjoy a few images of the area {click images to see large version}, taken on my walks each day as I absorb the local scene in this small Connecticut shoreline town. It is a little slice of heaven and I look forward to my time here – if you want to see more, I will regularly post pictures from my day-to-day life on my new tumblr blog: cap.tured.

Wow, Susan! Congratulations on everything great happening in your life! The site just keeps getting better and better, something that seems impossible given it’s state at any given time — it just doesn’t seem it could get any better and then it does! I am so excited for you for your upcoming apprenticeships. I wonder if others live vicariously, too, through watching you change and grow. You inspire, encourage, entertain and teach us, too. Thanks again for such a valuable resource, available to all of us your site. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

hey~ congrats on getting up a new site! (i think it’s a bit like birthing a cow…. lol, at least my experience!)
you’ve wrestled code and won. looks great and very slick.
good luck with all your adventures.

Congratulations on the new web site. And, especially, for the appreticeships! When in DC, take a trip to Alexandria, VA to the Torpedo Factory Art Center on King St to see 3 floors of open artist studios. You’ll see wonderful art and meet a lot of incredible artists, some of whom I’m honored to have as friends. Enjoy!
How fabulous, Susan, to see your successful expansion! DAM and the clarity of your intentions, unfolding, inspire a lot of us to persevere. Your site is great: the simplicity of it encourages us to really see what you are showing us. Where you are going, what’s up for you, is so exciting – thank you for sharing your ongoing journeys with us!
Oh that’s so exciting! I’ve recently been making career plans and along with building my studio (which should be ready by Christmas -fingers tightly crossed!)and getting my stuff professionally photographed I’ve chosen a mentor and hope to start work with them in early 2011 so I’ll be watching your apprenticeships with huge interest- thank you Susan!
Hello Susan,
