until one is committed. . .

I’ve shared this passage by W.H. Murray before – it is one of my favorites.  I still have and read the time-worn, faded slip of paper with this passage on it that someone dear to me placed in my hand many years ago. Thank you DK.

Until one is committed
there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation),
there is one elementary truth,
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas
and splendid plans:

That the moment one definitely commits oneself,
then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one
that would never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issues from the decision,
raising in one’s favour all manner
of unforeseen incidents and meetings
and material assistance,
which no (wo)/man could have dreamt
would have come (her)/his way.
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”

Mmmmmmm. . . so much truth in those words.  Tomorrow I am going to share a critical piece of assistance that I received on my journey of commitment.  It’s how I made the apprenticeship project happen (among other things).  I don’t make many endorsements of products or services here on DAM, but this is one I feel compelled to share.  More to come tomorrow!

That quote has been the source of so much positive change in my life– I can’t even count it up! My copy, too, is well-worn. I’m waiting for a check for a magazine article and am seriously thinking of working with you on a website. I think it’s time.
