One day last week I rode the Metro for an hour, getting off every couple of stops to take pictures in the surrounding neighborhoods. Here are a few of my photos from the streets of DC – hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed my experiment.
This slide show is best viewed in full screen mode. I’ll be back this evening with another slide show – have a great day!

Loved it!!!!
Thank you for showing me a side of DC I’ve never seen. Would you mind telling which line you rode? Green maybe? I’ll be in DC in April and may follow your lead if you don’t mind.
Wow! Fabulous photos!
Great photos! Can’t wait to see more!
Very cool… and a very representative take on that puzzling city. Hope you watched your lens case. There is a amazingly lightfingered bunch at Union Station, we found. Keep us posted. (I especially loved the clothing notes.)(and the lovers hugging.)
Excellent reporting on DC. Your eye always finds the perfect subject, be it inanimate or animate.
Fabulous, compassionate and inspiring photos. You have a great eye, and your own humanity spills into that moment when you click the shutter. We are all connected, and somehow you make the net of our beings stronger, and visible. Very moving. I am so proud of you!
Now that is what America is all about. You captured it beautifully!
Fascinating photos – you must have a great telephoto lens to get such elegant closeups without the people knowing? You also have a great eye for subject and context… Enjoyed seeing one of your hours in DC.
Thank you so much! Love your website!
Beautiful! My favorite was the first — the stilettos. Thanks!
Hey darlin, I think you found a new career or a least an Avocation.I loved it and watched Three times.

YOur slide showis very powerful, shows the diversity in our nation’s capital.Great pics , some even award worthy!
Thank you all for your kind comments – I am so glad that you are enjoying my view of different parts of this city.
Jennifer – yes, I was on the Green line. I shot more than 350 photos during that hour – I believe these were taken when I got off at the stations in Columbia Heights, the Convention Center and Chinatown.
In a bustling city it is easy to never really look at the person standing next to you, the people walking along side of you. I think this is a great exercise for anyone – makes you take the time to really look at people – and yes, Tory, we are all connected – how I wish everyone understood this truth.
More to come soon –
S.
Love it, love it, love it!
What a great idea – to capture a glimpse into a city’s life.
you have found your muse…tis’ the life around you.

Susan, your photos are fabulous. You captured the humanness of the people. What a talented eye! It made me want to go back and re-explore DC through your eyes!
This was great. You caught people with their thoughts exposed. You should be sure to get the last one printed.
Beautiful!!! You’ve captured the spirit and left me wanting more!
