Home Depot has found a loyal customer in Peter Kiss, who uses construction lumber from the mega-store to carve his signature figurative sculptures. I’m not sure which delights me more – the carved, painted sculptures or their equally compelling titles.

The former marine biologist and architect has been making art full time since 1990, offering up a touch of social commentary with a generous dollop of humor. The video below, while comfortably short, is certainly long enough to give the viewer a good understanding of the thinking behind the art.

The Artist Lounge is the next level of membership on DAM and it launches later this month. Laura, Julie and Donna I will be in touch with you next week to give you the details.
and congratulations!
I hope you can indulge me as I step out of character and share a personal note of congratulations in a public way. On Thursday June 2nd I am going to watch, laugh, cry tears of gratitude and let my heart swell with joy as my daughter and her closest friend receive their Masters in Mental Health Counseling – both graduating with honors.
Jessica and Talya take a break from their studies last week
This accomplishment came at a high personal cost to Jessica and she learned much about friendship when Talya came through with unconditional support at a critical time. I am deeply proud of Jessica’s perseverance and profoundly thankful for Talya’s gift of friendship.
The last time they took a break was for Talya’s wedding to Aron last May!
My heart is full. Much love to both of you.
{I’ll be back with a post on Friday. . .or Saturday. Soon. . .but you can say congratulations to these beautiful women while I’m gone!}

France Lambe uses a specific method of hand building and coiling to construct walls that become a membrane between inner and exterior space, then punctuates the surface with tiny holes, thereby linking the interior to the exterior.
The ceramic artist’s goal is to create tension between apparent opposites: inner, outer; roughly textured, smooth; intricately patterned surface and blank canvas. There is something hushed and soothing about the sculptures that makes me want to whisper, to be still, to listen. If only walls could talk. . .
Membership Update
Today begins the migration: 2,800 highly curated posts about contemporary fine craft are moving to the new members-only area of DAM. This move launches the first of several levels of membership that will become available in the coming weeks.
Membership at the Archives Level gives you access to the complete archives and a free hi-res image each month for use in your art, to print and frame, on your website – the possibilities are endless.
Daily posts and posts from the most recent 6 month period will continue to remain open to non-members. You can read more about the changes to DAM here.
I will be back later to announce the three winners of the giveaway - see you then!
