Description Michael Janis developed a focus in glass art after working for twenty years as an architect in the United States and Australia. Now Co-director of the Washington Glass School in Washington, DC, Janis has taught at the Penland School of Crafts, California's Bay Area Glass Institute, and Istanbul's Glass Furnace. His work has been shown at major galleries and international art fairs and is included in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2011, Janis mounted a solo exhibition at the Fuller Craft Museum (MA) and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, among other honors.

Description I spent many years as a professional children’s book illustrator, but eventually I wanted my work to exist off the page, on its own & have no editor but me. I tell stories or convey a feeling with my work; whether in a tile, where there is often a narrative, or in a pendant, sculpture or ornament. My pieces are sold in galleries in the United States.
